To kill or not to kill.......

Just came back from watching a neat movie called "Shootout at Lokandwala".... the movie deals with an incident that took place in 1992 when the cops killed 6 gangsters in a resedential locality when they could have just arrested them...... Now you might say that, what was the need for the killing ( i am sure all you human rights activisits must be thinking the same)....... Arrest them and have law take its course...... The question now arises Does LAW take its course....

To set the facts right..... These 6 people were gangsters......ppl who used to terrorize and kill people for money ( supari as they call it) ........ never spared anyone....... kill without regret and sometimes just for the heck of it..... Now the question would arise, are these people's lives worth anything??

The COPS side: The police generally beleive that these people can never change and hence it is better off to get rid of them..... They would continue to do the same thing once they get out.... More lives would be in danger if they are released on some pretext or the other....

The Human Rights Side: No more person is gulity until proven in a court of law.... Also every human being must be given a chance to redeem himself..... People cannot be killed just because they killed others..... If that is to be so, then what would be the difference between humans and animals......

The Gangster's Side: These are generally people who come from extreme poverty and take exotortion and killing as a way out for easy money.... There are others that do it for the power that they get by killing others..... These are people who love to see the fear in others and get a kick out of it....

My side :) : No person should be allowed to kill in the first place and if he does he should not be allowed to go free or with just imprisonment........ He should be dealt with fiercely and must be set an example for future killers..... There may be some mistakes in these encounter killings which would be due to negligence or just cops trying to take advantage of such a thing...... But if these people are also dealt with firmly, then even this would come down resulting in an creating a scene in which such incidents do not happen.......

Kill such people if neccecary ..........

Who should be president??

The post for the President of India is open and there is already a rat race on for someone to become one....... Let me clarify....... There is no rat race among the contestants but among the various parties supporting these contestants....... Each party wants to put up a president of their choice so that he doesnt eat their head later and do exactly as what the party says later.......

Let us go through the contestants..... APJ Kalam( though he has declined to continue - for some reason his name keeps popping up), The Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekawat, Karan Singh ( Congress Oldie), Atal Behari Vajpayee himself( i am not kidding), Amitabh Bachan ( my god- thank god that they dropped his name) and so forth.....

Now to come to think of it...... Does it really matter in a country like India?? Does the president have any powers at all?? he basically does what the Prime Minister ( reading ruling party ) tells him...... For Gods sake even his speeches to the parliment are prepared by PMO office.....

We had a really great president for the past 5 years in the form of APJ Abdul Kalam.... He is one person who i truly admire..... His vision and desire to make a difference to all the people around him is truly amazing.... But was he able to do anything constructive...... Did a president post ( which is supposed to be the highest power on paper) give him an oppurtunity to do anything....

Now the question that has raged over the decades..... Does India really need a president?? Does he do anything worthwhile other than give speeches and smile at the camera?? Oh yes he sometimes sends back the laws passed by the parliment....... But at the end of the day he signs them anyways ..... So there is no point of him sending it back in the first place.......

My take is that ....... India doesnt need a president ...... too much money is wasted on that position which really doesnt do anything ( read elections, flights, security etc).... But there is no one who is courageous enough to stand up and say it for the fear of backlash...... So people just go ahead do nothing...... It is one of the things that u cant do anything about but you just live with it....

Murund Jaljeera Beach.........

Just came back from the wonderful murund beach near kashid......... Spent two days there .... A beach which is really isolated from commercialization....... Neat places to stay in.......... Food is good and most importantly great place to drink :) ........

It all started when three musketeers ( me , anuj and nikhil ) planned to do something on saturday........ but confusion reigned supreme when me and anuj were planning to go to pune and nikhil at the same time was coming to mumbai......... After we sorted that out which meant that anuj would go to pune and then get back by sunday evening and nikhil would come on saturday to mumbai and we all would leave on monday morning..........

Monday morning........... I am still not sure of wether we would be going or not............ After a little bit of haggling, we finally left at 1pm (when we were supposed to leave by 10 am) .......... We caught my favourite bus no 25 to churchgate and then went to the gateway from there......... We then took a ferry to alibagh at 3 pm..........

When we reached alibagh, we realized that it was one pathetic beach and there was absolutely nothing to do there......... We then decided to go to kashid ......... When then reached kashid by taking two autorickshaws only to realize that everything in kashid shuts down at 7 pm and nothing ever happens in the night.......

We were pissed off to say the least......... People then asked us to go to Murund jalgeera beack where the place is lit up and u get acco right on the beach.......... We then again left to murund beach and finally found a great place where there was civilization and a great beach........

The amazing part of this beach was that it was truly empty ................... It was like the place which was free from people swarming over, hawkers all over the place etc............. The waves of the beach were just right.............. It wasnt violent nor was it feeble......... U could just drift away in the water for some distance ( which i did........... ) ..........

If u r in mumbai and have a couple of days off......... I definately recommend that u deffinately do go to this beach ..........

Recommendation : Kashid by day and Murund by night :) ( they are just half an hour apart)

Kisses galore.........

I am writing this post due to some of the recent kissing and cuddling events that are happening......... How can a country that boasts so much of its freedom of expression, thought blah blah...... Make such a big fuss when there is no need for it......

lets take it case by case....... First the Shilpa Shetty and Richard Gere incident......... Two people minding their own business......... You could say that shilpa shetty was taken aback when she was kissed in such a manner by gere......... But you could see that she was enjoying it........ If she dint have a problem then why should others have one.......people should have had a problem if either shilpa had a problem or there was some sort of nudity involved..............

Lets take the next one......... The aishwarya and hrithik kiss in Dhoom......... a simple smooch u could say......... people had such a big problem with that........... articles saying that the marriage is now off due to the kiss etc.......... Give me a break.......... Do people seriously think that abhishek would not have known about the kiss when he himself was acting in the movie.........
hypocriacy........ thats all it is........... people loved it when mallika sherwat was doing it in murder but when aishwarya rai does it........... all hell breaks loose........

lets take the third one............ Couples getting beaten up because of just sitting together and cuddling with each other in mumbai and pune......This is not carried out by some fundamentalist group or something like that.......... But they were beaten up by cops ........... the same people who are supposed to safegaurd the system......... is a little time with your loved one too much to ask for??

The more i think about it.......... the more it hits me that these events are carried out with no good intention in mind.......... its just to get some cheap publicity and make some headlines for the numerous newspapers and tv channels.......I hope the people who are supposed to protect the system such as cops and the courts get some sense and put an end to all this crap........

Where does my life take me from here.........

Its been 9 months since i have started my MBA and in another 9 months i would have completed my MBA ......... A scary thought indeed ........... The whole of my student life would be over.........

Lots of thoughts go through my head when i think about this......... At one end i think about a comfortable job which i would get at the end of 9 months and at the other is the lingering thought of entreprenuarship ........... At one end is the thought of finally being free and at the other is the lingering thought of marriage ( yes people in my community do get married early ........ so dont be surprised if u can invitation card from me :) ) ..........

Job vs Entreprenuar.......... I have spent countless nights thinking abt it......... And sometimes i feel the only take away from the MBA course is the confidence that i have now of doing something on my own ........ A job would mean a secured life ahead ( may not be the most relaxing ) ........ Nothing to worry about financially............ You will always get a second chance......... Day to day activities would seem to get organized ..........

But is it worth getting sucked into the job and only after 20 years would you really be ready to become an entreprenaur again.......... Or is it worth taking the risk and go out and do something for yourself.......... If reqd through away all those years of technical education......... Try and do something at the age of 35 or try doing something at the age of 55 that is the real question........

I have no idea what i will end up doing............ If you have some thoughts which could help me ........pls leave a comment ................

This is what i got when i tried to find out if i am open mided or not.......... Try it its good fun...... You will learn stuff abt yourself.........

You Are 68% Open Minded

You are a very open minded person, but you're also well grounded.
Tolerant and flexible, you appreciate most lifestyles and viewpoints.
But you also know where you stand firm, and you can draw that line.
You're open to considering every possibility - but in the end, you stand true to yourself.
9 months after joining MBA

its been a whole 9 months since i have joined NITIE...... so i thought i would do an introspection to see what all an MBA has given me and what i have lost ............

Things that i have lost

1. I have lost loads of hair ( MBA is driving me to baldness :))

2. I have lost weight and lost my awesome good looks ( who i am kidding ;) )

3. I have lost sleep ......... Have had numerous sleepless nights ......... Most important thing to remember as i was a person who used to sleep 10 hours a day before joining MBA

4. I have lost a chance to stay in bangalore ( i am a big bangalore fan )

5. Lost a chance to stay with my nephew and neice :(((( ........

6. Lost a chance to spend time with all the hot babes of bangalore .......... NITIE doesnt have ne babes :((((

7. Lost a chance to continously earna 30k a month salary......and a comfortable life.........

The list goes on and on...........

Things that i have gained ..............

1. A great deal of self confidence which has led me to beleive that i can take on the best and beat them at their own game..........

2. Some amount of entreprenurial thought ..........

3. An expereince of a lifetime........... no amount of words that can describe it..........

4. Made some great friends whom i will never forget.........

5. learnt a great deal about group dynamics ...........

6. Most importantly learnt a great deal of MBA fart which would help to navigate any situation :) ..........

I have had a great experience in the last 9 months and hope to have a better one in the next 9..... A sincere advice to everyone is to do an MBA as you will gain a great deal from it........ Dont get choosy abt the colleges u get, its the experience and learning that u gain the most than the initial placement................

Second last man standing !!!

Recently i took part in an event called Last man standing at SIBM pune...... I was shortlisted for the event from a hundred entires......... They were 17 of us in the final shortlist and we had to fight it out among ourselves to be the " Last Man Standing"........

Before i go ahead, let me tell u what this event is................. Its a three day event and as the organizers called "55 hours of continous torture ".......... It consits of 15 events, both formal and informal, and the guy with the maximum number of points at the end of three days was declared the winner.....

On the day of the event only 17 of us had turned up........ People were there from various colleges such as NMIMS, Great Lakes, SIBM, SCMHRD, Sydenam etc...... Now let us take each day at a time......

Day 1 :

It started off with an event called Radio Play, where two ppl had to talk over the radio for 5 min in a funny situation.......... I was a mud wrestler confessing to a priest over the crimes that i had done....... It got very vulgar but it was good fun.......

The next event was a press brief and questions thrown at u............ This was ok, wasnt really that intresting......

At the end of these two rounds .......... two ppl were elliminated both of which were hot babes from MICA and SCMHRD :( ........ I thought my luck had begun to run out then itself ;)

The next event was a really nice event called Euroclubs....... where u were a manager with some of money and u had to bid for players..... It involved a great deal of stratergy......

At the end of this we were asked to design a condom ad for the small man ( hope u get what i mean :)) ...... The best part was there was a hot girl from SIBM on the jury and trying to explain the ad to her got a lil intresting :) ............

We then had a corporate finance case study and considering my knowledge in fin u can guess urself on how well it went.......

We went back to our hostel thinking that it was the end of the day....... Thinking we might get some sleep after a hard days work .............. Our wish was shortlived as they came knocking at our door at 3 am in the morning ............. We just had two hours of sleep.......

We were given a fairy tale at 3am and we were asked to analyse it and find out the management fundas in it.............. MBA fart back to the rescue.... :)

At 5 am in the morning we were asked to come ready to do some physical excercises......... It involved doing 15 pushups and then going up and down 5 stairs with a carton containing 12 bottles of water............I did the whole excercise in flat two min after which i felt so exhausted that i thought that i would never get up............

That brought us to the end of day 1............ At the end of which two ppl withdrew from the event citing inablity to cope up with the pressure.............

the last man standing gang................................

Day 2 :

Day 2 started with a set of informal events such as SuDuKo , Crystal Maze , Sock matching and Lemon and spoon races.........

We then had to a fashion show for the entire SIBM............. The theme was south indian........ The audience made fun of us made us to dance and what not........... it was good fun..........

We then had a business quiz at which i luckily fared well..............

At the end of this another 5 of them were elliminated and for the final four rounds we had just 6 of us........

We then had a every nice event in which we had to design the cricket world cup trophy...... The best part was that we had to make a real live trophy with thermcol, fevicol, paper cutter......

We then had to sell the trophy to the ICC.............

My world cup trophy
Might look a lil shabby ..... But i sold it well :) ................

After which we went back to our rooms, trying to get some sleep....

At 1 am we were given a huge case study and asked to analyse it and submit it by 5 am........

After trying to mix some sleep and do the case.......... At 5 am we get shock when they said that they were just mocking us and the case is not going to be there for evaluvation....... The 6 of us felt like tearing our hair apart...........

The day still dint end when we were asked to run the pune marathon............ We had to then run three km....... after which we were allowed to sleep for an hour .............

Day 3:

Day 3 had just three formal events which were a HR case where u had to take a stand

The second was a tuncoat where u had to argue about the benifits of oragnized retail or Walmart......

The third one again was a collosal case study where u had to suggest on how a company called verbatium can beat a market leader 3M.......

To skip all the events, read from here :) .....................

We then waited for the results and for my dissapointment i did not win................After three days fo hard work they had just one prize of 40k and i came second................. i lost by 5 marks..........

From that day onwards i have been known as second last man standing :)

All and a all a great event and i had great fun taking part in it.........................

TOPA night valentines day party!!!!

I just came back from one of the most amazing parties that i have been to........ The valentines day party that was organized by a group in our college called TOPA ( Theatre of Performing Arts ) ......... One of the most raunchiest and 'sexplicit' parties i have ever been........ People cracking XXX jokes all over the place........ People digging out information from the personal lives of people and making fun of the same........

It started with a "nipple sucking contest"......... Before you get carried away........... I am talking about drinking from a milk bottle............ These baby milk bottles were filled with soft drinks and people were asked to suck and drink it through the nipple........ It was hilarious........ The 'chooza' of our batch won and proved his credibilty being the 'chooza'........... In the girls. the class CR took the top honors and both of them were crowned ' Mr and Ms chooza' ............

The next event was in which people were asked to do acts suggested by the audience........... There was raunchy dances, proposals and even smooches to the wall........ The raunchy dance by Brijesh was simply awesome....... The proposals from Alankar and Deepak were good........ Few people ran away when their names were called............ As Tau puts it " Uska Fat gayi"..........

Before we went on to the next event.........Two of them were given PPOs to join the TOPA group...... They were asked to do a raunchy dance and you can say it cant get more raunchier than this........... The guy took his shirt off and started dancing around the girl and to everyones suprise the girl responded matching the guys each move .............

The last thing on the agenda was the "Mr and Ms TOPA" ............ There were 5 girls and 5 guys.... Each of them were asked innermost secrets and who ever comes up with the most creative and wackhy answers.......... Two of them took the top honors for sheer presence of mind..... It was really hilarious..........

That bought to the end of a great party with some people taking it to the dance floor............ Most of us left after a couple of songs ( cos there is nt much fun dancing if u r nt drunk ;)) .........
One of the great parties that i had been too......

Valentine's day is here.........

Its still a week away but neways the prep for the same is on.............. The time for love ( archies wants you to beleive) ........... The time to show that you care for the people whom you love......... The time for romance suposedly..........

I in fact have never got the meaning or the reason for the same............ being a cynic , i feel that valentine's day is just a marketing gimmick that companies use to emotionally black mail people ( i fall into the trap too.......... ) so that they buy their stuff ( which are generally completely useless..... greeting cards, teddy bears, heart shaped ballons, flowers etc) .......

Now i begin to wonder why all men (committed or not ) fear this particular day.......... Committed men ( married or not ) fear this day as cos the people they love and care ( mainly girlfriends and wives ) expect them to do something special......... The worst part is, men being lazy and generally not creative end up doing the same thing...... Run at the last possible minute, to the nearest archies showroom and buy something really stupid such as gaint teddy bear or a heart shaped one and some flowers to give it to their loved ones........... I have no idea who benefits from this excercise.... is it women ( who get stuff they just like for a minute and then throw it away ) or archies ( gift shop ) gallery......... which makes a nice profit............

Women on the other hand have no comittment to do anything at all......... Some women again buy useless stuff for the guys ( photo frames, heart shaped key chains and this is even better - > pens with hearts on them) ........... I have never seen people buy something sensible for each other............ I mean u can buy ur loved ones stuff like clothes , shoes etc.......... They would at least use it or exchange it..........

Now for the people who r nt committed ............ This is the time pressure mounts on them......... people giving them weird stares as if they are losers of the first order.......... friends making fun of u and pairing with every single girl u know.......... Telling you the weirdest stuff like " Love is in the air" ............. and stuff like that......... My god !!!! please give us poor souls a break...........

The worst that can happen is when you have to take off from work on that day......... I had to last year as luck would have it.......... My IIML interview was on the exact same day.... As i went up to my TL for a leave........ A big notorious smile came on his face.......... People areound you start giving funny smiles .......... you somehow squeeze your way out of it and you think thank god thats the end of it............... But as if the curse would just not let go of you......... You get back to work on the day just after vaentine's day............ the curious and funny smiles are back staring at u........ people asking u what u did yesterday with a wink in their eyes..... the torture just doesnt seem to end..........

Finally my take is that......... valentines day, fathers day, mothers day, sisters day, brothers day, friendships day ....... this is the best one "Rose day" .......... are all good for gift shops and restaurants.......... we need to acknowledge people on this day and move on......... cos u cant show ur love for a person on just one day in the whole year........dont make too much of a big deal out of it............. chill and enjoy the day.........

My first case study competition win !!!

It happend two days back ( jan 28th to be precise) ............. Me and a friend of mine had gone over to a B school called Nirma (yup its from the washing powder nirma fame :)) in ahemadabad..... We had written a white paper on "Emerging retail scenario in India " ( it was more of copy paste :)) .......... We happend to get shortlisted from over 60 entries (an achievement in itself as the students from top B schools such as IIMs , FMS, IIFT and from NITIE :) had participated for it).........

We were then invited to give a presentation in Nirma........ We went there more to enjoy the experience ( read babes ) and winning was one of the last things in our mind....... We started off with a video which i had made for the event........ As you would have it, the powerpoint versions did not match and the video failed to make its mark :( (one whole day of work went down the drain...) the presentation went on well.......... We waited till evening for the results.........Though everyone had told us that we had done well..... I wasnt sure of winning......

Then it happend..... the prof called out our names and for a moment i couldnt beleive it......... It was like a dream come true :)............ Dont think i will ever forget that day, when i met hot babes and ended up winning a case study competition.......... It somewhat had fairy tale sort of ending .....

NITIE - Best B school in India

You might smile at the above statement and say that i am making such a statement cos i am studying in NITIE. But i am saying this because it really is!!!!

This is one B school where you have freedom to do what you want ( and I mean it too).... It is a college where there isnt much work and all u do is attend classes(with great difficulty)..... sleep a lot , copy all the assignments and still end up doing pretty well in your acads and get decent jobs as well.....

I sometimes wonder on how does this actually work..... How come we do so much less than the other B schools and still do well or better than most of them....... Then it hits me, its the freedom and the time that we have........ Freedom to do what we want helps us in actually learning from real life situations..... Be it organizing fests, placements, talks , summits etc...... We learn by making mistakes........ We learn by not repeating mistakes that seniors commit....... This is the sort of learning that is maximum in NITIE compared to any other B school......

Secondly, its the free time that we get due to which we are able to take part in numerous competitions.... Working on real life case studies and events actually gives you learning which no amount of classroom teaching can..... We are always trying to find out the best stratergy for companies like Dabur, Brittania, Cognizant, Mindtree.......

This is why i say that NITIE is one of the best B schools in India........ Its because of its unique format........ Which ends up giving you a right mix of learning and hands on experience with real life situations.........

My first blog..... Had been planning to do this for some time now.... i have finally found some josh to start it :).........

I shall start off by wishing all of you a very happy new year.....

The new year has begun well for me..... Spent the first few days at home with family before i had to come back to mumbai .......... There is a nice feeling abt this new year....... Though i have no idea why........ It may be just the start of another new day..... But it is also something more...... It gives u an oppurtunity to look at things that happ in the previous year and look forward to the next.........

Today was the first day of the third module.......... It turned out to be a quiet affair as not many people have come back as yet and we ended up having just one class.......

Lets see how things go on.........
