How can you think of killing a child ?

I write this post in regard to the case of Harsh and Niketa Mehta who want to abort their 25 week old feotus..... The feotus in question is "supposedly" diagnosed with congenetial heart problems which could affect the way it would live......

So now you ask the question " Should the parents abort ? " ....... On the face of it, the answer should be pretty simple - "Yes"........ why would you want a child to suffer ? The chance of not having a normal life is strong.... So lets go ahead and not give the child a chance to live.... ( It would add to ours and the child's problems you see ) ....

Bull shit........ Who are we to decide wether the child would have a normal life or not.... Shouldnt we at least give a chance to the child for a normal life ( Medically a 25 week old feotus is actually living ) ....... Shouldnt you be trying to do everything possible in this age of modern sceince to cure the child of its problems....

As the high court put it....... How is it different from mercy killing..... so if some one has problems of health, we should have a right to go ahead and kill them ( could it not be extended to that ) ....... Have people thought of the more serious consequences later.... Medical science improves...... Kids are diagnosed that they would suffer from lets Diabetes, Obescity, etc........ So the child should not suffer right ?? Lets abort it then.....

There are innumerous kids born with congential heart diseases or various other type of diseases.... And quite of few of them do make it.... We should encourage everyone to at least take that chance...... Instead of actually encouraging people to abort kids.... When you take a decision to have kids, you should be ready for all possible scenarios.....

I am pretty sure that not a lot of people would agree with me ( even my wife doesnt ) .......... but i just encourage you to look at the larger picture and i am sure you too would feel the same way and be glad that the High Court did not upload the plea.....

U beat me to the post...i ws thinking of posting since reading the verdict..bt cudn find time...anyways ...i donnot agree because i believe that as a parent i can decide what is best way forward..and more than that as a woman i believe i have that right over my body and my life

Hmm .. pretty controversial topic. Both the options have its merits nd demerits.

I personally agree with you. The very science which allows you to detect the problem should be given a chance to rectify it.

@ d_grail - like i said in my post.. nt a lot of ppl agree with me.... but i still cant accept it for two reasons ..... 1. As a parent you dont have a right to kill a child ...... u can guide a child but not kill it...

2. since the feotus is already 25 weeks old... u can consider it a living thing ( 25 week old feotus can survive outside the mother's body ) ...... so u may have a right to ur body ( actually u still dont... since suicide is not legal ) ... u dont have right to decide on the childs life.... extreme steps are not in ur hand but in the hand of God....

i am sure u will agree on the possible implications of allowing such a thing.... never make any exceptions to the rule because the rule itself would then become an exception...

Hey Dude, I agree with you - as we do not have any rights whatsoever to abort the kid.
But, I also do agree many wont agree on it and also practically opposing this also makes sense. So, as Anuj said, this is quite a controversial topic.

But, said so, i would like to continue writing to highlight few points..

1) Well said with the point - " IF the decision is already made to have a child, we should be ready to face the rest ",,this is well backed by the comment - " what if the child was never diagnosed or what if the child was not diagnised correctly.. or what if the child, which was born naturally but later catches all sorts of diseases?? ; does that mean ,we need to kill it off later ?? ; Tomorrow, what if we at this age after leading perfectly a normal life meets with a simple accident and becomes a next to dead person but just breathing, Does one say, we need to be aborted ?? "
So, in this angle, it of course means to face the music, than walking out !!!
2) And later, if medicines can cure them, well and good.. but, another imp point by doing so, will have a cummulative effect as others might also follow the same path ( this goes by the fact that there is nothing good or bad in this world.. most common things are considered as good and rare things as bad ).. eventually leading to more and more crimes .. !!!
So, its upto people to decide and take actions..!!!

I don't know why, I don't seem to be thinking from the child's point of view. I am wondering if a child needs to be born if the very basic building block of the child, i.e, the mother herself doesn't want it. Would the kid live happily in the future?

Good post Jeet...
Although, I defy. agree that although abortion was not justified here, there are 2 things that must be considered.
The health of the mother during the remaining duration of her pegnancy and the financial condition of the family before taking a decision to cancel the abortion bid.
